The questions in the student material are designed to be the basis of a class discussion. They are not designed to be a homework assignment. Your input into the discussion is essential.
The anticipated outcomes for Part 3: How we see are for students to:
be able to provide examples of things that produce light energy (sources of light)
understand that light travels in straight lines and be able to produce some evidence to support this idea
be able to explain the pathway of light from sun to object to eye that enables us to see things.
These outcomes should be indicated in the answers to the questions.
In the discussion, the questions below may be appropriate.
What are some of the sources of light around us?
What are several optical technologies used to detect light?
How are shadows formed in terms of rays of light from the source?
How is the blurriness and size of a shadow related to the nature of the source of light, and the positions of the source and the object?
Why can we not always rely on our sense of sight when making observations?
How could you make your observations more accurate?
You might ask students to write some summaries at this stage.
