Summary

After having completed 'Refraction', you should be able to use examples from your investigations to explain or illustrate the following:

  1. How the Law of refraction can be used to predict the path of a ray of light as it passes from one material into another.
  2. The path of the ray of light as it passes through the prisms shown in the diagram.
The path of the ray of light to be continued through the prisms
  3. The shape of a convex lens and a concave lens.
  4. The difference between an image seen through a concave lens and an image seen through a convex lens.
  5. Why convex lenses can form real images on a screen but concave lenses cannot form real images on a screen.
  6. How the refractive index of a material is related to the velocity of light in that material (Activity 4 only).
  7. How the refractive index of a material is related to the amount of refraction it can cause (Activity 4 only).
