Wind energy**

The wind has a lot of motion energy in it.

Things with energy can make other things happen. For example, the motion energy in the wind can blow trees over or lift the roof off a house. It can also move things along (eg motion energy in the wind is transferred to motion energy in a sailboard).

The motion energy of wind can be used to make electricity. It is free except for the initial cost of constructing the device that makes the electricity.

A large fan could be connected to a device to create the type of movement that can be used to make electricity. When the wind blows, the fan would spin around and electricity can be produced.

  1. Name three examples where the motion energy in the wind is used to move some form of transport.
  2. Name some examples of where the motion energy in the wind is used on farms.
  3. Why would using the motion energy in the wind be an advantage in some developing countries?

You may need to complete your investigation before you have clear ideas about some of these questions.
