What's New Studies of Asia Voices and Visions from India: Texts for the Senior
English Classroom Voices and Visions from India combines authentic primary source materials with teaching and learning activities for students of English in Years 10, 11 and 12. Contemporary and traditional texts engage students in the pursuit of a deeper understanding of Indian cultures and societies. Literature, film, art and a range of print and visual materials challenge stereotypes and develop concepts of Asia, while also enabling students to achieve subject-specific learning outcomes. This resource has been developed in accordance with the key curriculum guidelines outlined in Studies of Asia: A Statement for Australian Schools , and under the guidance of a national reference group. This fourth and final CD-ROM in the Voices and Visions series is expected to be released and distributed free to all secondary schools by July 2004. The existing Snapshots of Asia series will be extended by producing another three 'big books' to include India, the Philippines and Malaysia. The books will be supported by teachers' notes and additional web-based material. A collection of four thematically-based big card sets on Environment, Beliefs, Symbols, Patterns and Designs, and Innovations, for upper primary is currently under development. Each set consists of eight cards, with each card presenting thematically images of one of the countries of Asia: China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. Each card set will be supported by teacher's guide and web-based materials. The cards are developed to incorporate studies of Asia in SOSE/HSIE, English and Art as well as to promote visual literacy. |
