Asia EdNet

Asia EdNet supports the studies of Asia through electronic communication by providing assistance for teachers to access quality materials relating to studies of Asia and classroom teaching practice. Asia EdNet consists of four components:
  • an email discussion group
  • an online workshop and CD-ROM tutorial about using the Internet to support the studies of Asia
  • a noticeboard of events related to the studies of Asia
  • annotated website links related to the studies of Asia.

Studies of Asia Curriculum Support Document

Professional Development Programme on the Studies of Asia Curriculum Support Document

This Train-the-Trainer and professional development programme is designed to ensure that the Studies of Asia Curriculum Support Document is widely used to assist curriculum development on Asia by:
  • familiarising participants with the content of the document
  • facilitating exploration of issues of scope and sequence when including studies of Asia in the curriculum
  • identifying synergies between local curriculum guidelines and priorities and the Curriculum Support Document
  • providing support materials for participants.

Professional Development Package

Professional Development Package to Support NALSAS Studies of Asia Resources

Comprising three 'train-the-trainer' modules, this package aims to support the uptake of the NALSAS studies of Asia Materials: Snapshots of Asia , Impressions: Texts from Asia for the Lower Secondary English Classroom , Reflections: Texts from Asia for Secondary English Classroom , Dimensions: Texts from Asia for the Upper Secondary English Classroom , Voices and Values: Citizenship in Asia . The programme aims to:
  • develop teachers' knowledge and understanding of the relevant text/s and websites
  • enhance participants' knowledge and understanding of Asia
  • examine ways of integrating the relevant text/s and websites into existing curriculum.

Professional Development Workshop

NALSAS Studies of Asia Professional Development Workshop for Teacher Educators

The NALSAS Studies of Asia Professional Development Workshop for Teacher Educators has been developed to:
  • Professionally develop pre-service teacher educators regarding the studies of Asia agenda and curriculum resources and professional development available.
  • Stimulate interest in the studies of Asia agenda in education faculties.
  • Support pre-service teacher educators to include content on Asia in their courses.

The Workshop consists of 3 key activities:

  • A Framework for Studies of Asia
  • Studies of Asia Resources and Services
  • Strategies for Including Studies of Asia

Studies of Asia Professional Development Modules

Studies of Asia Professional Development Modules

Five pairs of modules have been developed on:
  • Teaching Asia (cross-curricular)
  • Studies of Society and the Environment
  • The Arts
  • English
  • Asia In-Country Experience (cross-curricular).

The modules, at the Graduate Certificate level, have been designed for both primary and secondary teachers with a range of entry points. These modules focus on enhancing the professional skills of teachers, as well as their knowledge and understanding of Asia.

Studies of Asia for Teachers: A Distance Course

Studies of Asia for Teachers: A Distance Course

Studies of Asia for Teachers is a new post-graduate programme for teachers K/P–12. Units have been designed for both primary and secondary teachers with a range of entry points. Units have been developed for English, Studies of Society and the Environment, and The Arts. Completion of the required number of units can lead to:
  • a Diploma in Languages – Asian
  • a Graduate Certificate of Education
  • a Masters of Education.

Teachers may also be able to study the units as non-award based professional development by arrangement.

Voices & Visions

Voices & Visions: Texts from Indonesia, China, Japan and India Professional Development Programme

This Train-the-Trainer and professional development programme is designed to:
  • support the study of Indonesia, China, Japan and/or India and develop understandings of the relevance of Asia-related texts and the Voices & Visions CD-ROMs to the English curriculum;
  • establish confidence in the use of the Voices & Visions CD-ROMs and multimedia in the classroom;
  • increase participants knowledge and understanding of Indonesian, Chinese, Japanese and/or Indian texts; and
  • prepare trainers for the delivery of subsequent professional development, through the provision of a structured and effective training model.
