Curriculum Leadership
Curriculum Corporation is initiating a weekly Web-based journal for educational leaders, with a focus on curriculum. Titled Curriculum Leadership, it will serve a broad audience including principals, school curriculum coordinators, system officers, curriculum developers, professional association staff, consultants, journalists, researchers and academics.
Curriculum Leadership will include articles highlighting current developments, trends, issues and debates in Australian education, with emphasis on curriculum and leadership issues. Letters and Forum sections will allow for brief or in-depth responses and ongoing discussion.
Curriculum Leadership will also feature abstracts of key articles from selected professional and scholarly journals, as well as conference paper abstracts. The focus will be on Australia and New Zealand but key journals from other countries will be included.
There will also be a calendar of coming events, curriculum news and announcements, and regular updates on new publications in print and online.
The first issue was published on 1 November 2002. You can find the journal at http://cmslive.curriculum.edu.au/leader/
Readers can register online and receive an email alert as each edition is published. Access will be free of charge for the first year.

topYear of the Outback Project
The Year of the Outback is a time to celebrate. It provides an opportunity for students to reflect on our unique culture and what it means to be Australian. At the Year of the Outback Project site, a joint myinternet Limited and Curriculum Corporation initiative, you can hear outback stories and interviews, read outback recipes and learn about the email exchange between schools.

topCommunity Mentor Program
myinternet Limited continues its commitment to the development and growth of an online educational community. This is demonstrated by the launch of the myinternet Community Mentor Program.
Community Mentors will be vital members of myinternet's Education Group, who will participate in the ongoing development and management of an educationally-based community within the myinternet desktop Web portal, to promote the myinternet education resources and support the use of ICT in the classroom nationally.
The objective of the Community Mentor Program will be to support this talented and committed group of educators in a mutually beneficial way. This support will include: a forum to showcase their work; access to software, hardware and other myinternet resources; professional development and opportunities to exchange and share experiences.

topCurriculum Communities
Curriculum Communities has two online communities. English EdNet is online at www.curriculum.edu.au/communities/englishednet Arts EdNet is online at www.curriculum.edu.au/communities/artsednet
Arts EdNet is for Visual Arts educators and, like English EdNet, contains a practical tutorial on using the Internet in the learning area and a wealth of online resources.
A successful workshop for English EdNet has been held in Victoria with represent-atives from ALEA and VATE, co-presented with Curriculum Corporation by ALEA member Ros Mancer. Steve Hynoski has presented to AATE committee members in New South Wales.
An initial national workshop for ArtsEdNet was held at UTS in Sydney after the Visual Arts summit with representation from each of the States and Territories.
topHigh Demand for ICT in Quality Teacher Program
The National Quality Teacher Information Exchange project (NQTIE) is funded by the Commonwealth through the Quality Teacher Programme. It is managed for the Commonwealth by National Curriculum Services (NCS) in partnership with the Australian Council for Computers in Education (ACCE) and Australian Curriculum Studies Association (ACSA). topThe Net Effect: Girls and new media (2002)
This 24-page executive summary is available online and reports the results of research undertaken by Girl Scouts of the United States of America. The findings are reported under the following:
- The Internet is a powerful tool in girls' daily lives, but girls are 'driving without a licence'.
- Girls want adults to fully understand their online lives.
- Girls are aware of Internet dangers, but will benefit from proactive rather than reactive advice from adults.
Empowered with knowledge and pertinent advice, girls will successfully navigate both positive and negative experiences online.
