Texts on TV is a marvellously rich multi-media kit of resources supporting teachers and students to explore popular texts. It comprises five copies of a CD-ROM, a video, a teachers guide and a set of classroom resources. These materials support teaching about popular visual texts through the analysis and manipulation of an extensive library of media images, including familiar advertisements and clips from television programs. Texts on TV includes a comprehensive tour, introducing users to the three modules of the CD. In the View module, users can watch and analyse an extensive range of clips, learning about the techniques used to make them and the messages they convey. The easy-to-use Edit module allows students to edit film clips, join clips together, add title scenes and change soundtracks. They can change the meaning of the original clip or create new clips that convey different messages. The Read module provides detailed information about a range of visual media. Teachers will really enjoy exploring and using this versatile new product with their classes. This title was produced by the Department of Education and Childrens Services, South Australia, and has national appeal.
