Activity 1 | Assessment task
Introduction
Vocabulary: living standards, social and political conflict, guarantee, challenge these certainties, social harmony, open-door immigration policies, unrestricted flow, compete on the world economy, Aboriginal reconciliation, racial clashes, inflation, democratic principles and values, actively transmit, generations.
- Introduce the topic and the issues and discuss with the class, clarifying difficult vocabulary and concepts.
Activity 1: What do you value? (optional)
Vocabulary: valued attributes, prosperity, sustainable growth, competitive economy, leadership, initiative, social consensus, high environmental standards, democratic systems and values, accountable parliament, rule of law, access to the law, resolve conflict, secure private property rights, individual freedom and responsibility, media, equality of opportunity, reward, achievement, disadvantaged, independence, control of the political and economic future, national identity and culture, border control, international influence, tally, priorities.
- Conduct 1a and 1b as described.
- Conduct 1c as a pair or small group activity.
- For 1d conduct the tally in 1d as a class exercise as described. Pairs construct paragraphs.
- Conduct 1e as a class exercise.
