In this section you will be able to visit some interesting Internet websites that are related to the teaching and learning of Visual Arts. Think about how they might support your work.

Here are links to some Internet websites you might not have seen before. Take some time to explore their contents.

Art Gallery of New South Wales

The Art Gallery of New South Wales site provides a number of resources for Visual Arts educators. To find your way around this site you can use the top bar or click on the picture on the far right to take the tour for first-time users.

Arts Education Partnership
http://aep-arts.org
The Arts Education Partnership is a coalition of over 140 organisations. Two major founding members are the USA Department of Education and The National Endowment for the Arts. It has a number of useful resources related to arts advocacy. Scroll down and take a look at the Most Requested Items links.

Association for the Advancement of Arts Education

Take a look at Association for the Advancement of Arts Education (AAAE) research on arts education.

Australia Council for the Arts
http://www.ozco.gov.au/
The Australia Council supports the arts in a number of areas. Look specifically at the resources it offers.

Benedict Visual Literacy Collection

This is the site of the Arizona University. Click on the Site Index, and then on Archives, University. Once you are in the archive area, click on the Benedict Visual Literacy Collection.

Getty ArtsEdNet

This is the Getty's art education website. Follow the clearly marked links for lesson plans, gallery links and discussion group archives.

MuseumStuff.com

This website has a number of links to other visual art resources. There are many museums featured. You might like to follow the Art - Links Directory under Art and Design.

National Gallery of Australia

Follow the links to Collections and Education.

Tate

The Tate Museum is not actually a single museum, but rather a collection of British art galleries. Take a tour of Tate Britain and Tate in Space.

WebMuseum
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/
The WebMuseum is a network of web-based visual arts images. It offers a range of art images and contextual notes.

Bookmark or note the addresses of any sites you might wish to revisit. You will be asked to refer to these sites again in Module 2.

Choose one or two of the relevant sites (or sites that could be relevant) to your teaching. Make brief notes in answer to the following questions.

  • What advantages do these sites have over other resources you have access to?
  • What disadvantages are there compared to other resources?
  • Are there any problems with the technology?
  • Which of these sites could you use in your teaching program?
  • How could these sites support the resources you already use?
